iDirect iQ 200: Delivering the Power of Mobility Behind the Next-Gen Kymeta™ u8 Terminal

Mobility is set to be a big talking point at this years’ Satellite show that kicks off in Washington, D.C. this week, and for ST Engineering iDirect, it is a prime focus. Flat panel antennas hold the key to unlocking the potential of next-generation connectivity, enabling satellite links anywhere and everywhere and offering make-before-break connectivity with NGSO constellations.

One of the exciting announcements at Satellite 2020 this week is set to be Kymeta’s u8 flat panel antenna, which is enabled by an ST Engineering iDirect iQ 200 board, a DVB-S2/DVB-S2X board with Adaptive TDMA returns, that is integrated inside the u8 terminal, offering a complete connectivity solution for on-the-go communications.

The iQ 200 combines high performance iQ series features with mobility. The iQ 200 serves small to medium enterprise applications, such as land mobility and disaster response.

The Kymeta u8 antenna enables complete coverage of the Ku-band satellite spectrum, has expanded temperature range support, and offers better performance.  The u8 platform is available as an antenna-only product for integrators or as a turnkey terminal that can be paired with Kymeta’s new hybrid satellite-cellular connectivity service, Kymeta™ Connect. Looking forward, Kymeta is already working with LEO satellite operators on technology and service collaborations.

With the industry poised to begin the delivery of LEO-based satellite services, ST Engineering iDirect views ground infrastructure as the enabler of service delivery across these new orbits. We’re committed to the development of ground segment, and we will leverage that to open new revenue streams and enable customers to use different applications and to take advantage of this opportunity. We are innovating today with a view of the future.

Kymeta’s mobile connectivity services will be available in the US, Europe, the Middle East, Asia Pacific, sub-Saharan Africa, and Oceania with services extending to future geographies in the coming months. Initial deployments will include the military, first responders, buses, vehicle fleets, small maritime vessels, ferries, trucks, and trains.
