An IBC to Remember!

IBC 2023 Wrap Up

September in Amsterdam can mean only one thing – IBC. The best of the broadcast industries once again flocked to the RAI complex in the centre of the city to showcase their latest innovations and technological developments at one of the pivotal events of the year.

IBC 2023 MCX8000

On the ST Engineering iDirect stand….

We featured the MCX8000, our award-winning multi-carrier satellite gateway which drew a great deal of interest from attendees. Broadcasters today are looking to lower CAPEX and OPEX and to be more cost-effective in a competitive landscape. The MCX8000 was designed with the idea of bringing together the best of both worlds – high density and high reliability – through robust design and industry-leading redundancy solutions. The result is a future proof system that combines video and IP multiservice capabilities to support the transport of today´s and tomorrow´s services. Click here to learn more about the MCX8000.

IBC 2023 SkyFlowWe also featured the award-winning SKYflow end-to-end ecosystem. Our partners were also located on the show floor so that customers could visit them all to find out more about this ground-breaking innovation. The SKYflow ecosystem uses DVB Native IP and mABR over satellite to provide OTT content to a wide range of use cases: from remote education, mobility, to governmental use cases. ST Engineering iDirect was recently contracted by the Peruvian government to enable ubiquitous Access to Free-to-Air public channels. Download the SKYflow ecosystem whitepaper.

DVBNIP IBC 2023We took the opportunity to launch a joint whitepaper on DVB Native IP with Eutelsat. The whitepaper, available now, takes a detailed look at the DVB Native IP solution and the challenges it solves as well as the many use cases it can be applied to. Click here to download the whitepaper.

The digitization of the teleport is well underway, and we have been at the forefront of enabling this transformation. A critical element of the transformation is the development of a standard that enables the conversion of analog signals to digital enabling interoperability via standard IP networking when using COTS hardware. On our stand, we demonstrated the digital conversion using the Digital Intermediate Frequency Interoperability (DIFI) 1.1 Standard which has been developed by the DIFI consortium. We have been deeply involved in the consortium since its inception and will continue this work as the industry moves towards a cloud-based environment. You can find out more here.

IoT Solutions IBC 2023
Left: Dynamic IoT terminal, Right: Fixed IoT terminal

Our range of IoT solutions were also on display at the stand. Demand for satellite-based IoT capabilities is growing exponentially across all markets, this is especially evident in the agri-tech, fishing and transport and cargo sectors. Satellite provides the ubiquity that many of these cases demand. We enable mobility and fixed use cases with our family of compact, lightweight, integrated IoT terminals. Built on our scalable Evolution, Velocity, and Dialog hub infrastructures, our IoT solutions incorporate an IoT optimized waveform and a cloud-based NMS/OSS management framework serving all use cases cost effectively from low to medium data rate applications. A networking hub

IBC was an event packed with customer and partner interactions! We kicked off with a special luncheon for our bePART partners where we demonstrated the work we have been doing on interoperability, the MCX8000, the SKYflow ecosystem and the Digital Teleport. This special network of partners combine their market knowledge and expertise with our products, support and dedicated training and marketing tools enabling them to increase their business and revenue. IBC presented a great opportunity for us to get together and celebrate this partnership and to hear from them and share their experiences.

IBC 2023 Networking

This was closely followed by a celebration of women in the satellite industry with the annual IBC SSPI-WISE drinks and raffle. SSPI-WISE (Women in Space Engagement) aims to promote and mentor women in the space and satellite industry through STEM outreach, structured mentor programs and partnerships with other women’s groups and to elevate the profile of women in the industry. It was an opportunity for members to network and share experiences. The raffle winner also got to enjoy some Belgian chocolates and a unique SSPI-WISE scarf.

IBC 2023 SSPI WISE

We welcomed a host of journalists at the stand for in-depth interviews and updates on all our latest developments. Thank you for the great discussions on industry trends and transformations!

IBC 2023 Journalists

On the Saturday evening, we ended another busy day with our customer VIP event at the Traveller bar, located at the RAI. We welcomed a colleagues and friends who joined us for drinks, food and conversation – a great time was had by all in a truly convivial atmosphere.

Finally, we’d like to thank everyone that stopped at our stand to ask about our products and services, or even just to chat. Every conversation was valuable, and we look forward to seeing you all in Amsterdam next year – same time, same place!
