Baseband Processing

Core function of the Intuition system architecture

Intuition Product Header Logo
  • iDirect Baseband Processing is the part of the ground system that provides all baseband signal and waveform functions within the Intuition datapath.

Baseband Processing includes Network Functions deployable on iDirect hardware, on COTS in private clouds, or public cloud platforms. These functions manage modulation, demodulation, error correction, and signal processing for waveforms like DVB-S2X and Mx-DMA MRC. Systems can be distributed across multiple locations, each with a Baseband Processing Cluster.

    Intuition Ground System Architecture
  • To enable real-time bandwidth allocation for diverse applications, iDirect’s award-winning waveform Mx-DMA MRC, combines SCPC efficiency with TDMA scalability, to support:

    • Thousands of sites
    • Ensure superior QoE
    • Adapts dynamically to traffic demand
    • Optimize satellite and ground resources

Maximize efficiency and flexibility, even under challenging conditions like rain fade.

  • The demands of high-capacity satellites require a high-density Baseband Processing solution designed to deliver enhanced throughput across industries.

The XBB, iDirect’s on prem, universal baseband system surpasses conventional standards by combining high density with improved efficiency.

    • DVB-S2X: supports up to 1.5 Gsps – 32 carriers
    • Houses 2 hot-swappable iDirect Mod/Demod Modules (DXM)
    • Flexibility for each DXM to support either:
      500Msps DVB-S2X T; DVB-S2X R or 100 Msps Mx-DMA MRC
    • DIFI ready
    • Deployable in iDirect Baseband Rack, DBR 2100
  • Flexible Deployment Options for Baseband Processing Functions

Adapting to diverse customer needs and strategies, Baseband Processing functions can be deployed:

    • On-premises
      • In large HTS gateways with substantial capacity and numerous high-capacity beams, multiple XBBs can fit within a single equipment rack, such as the DBR rack system, enabling support for hundreds of beams in large-scale Satcom operations.
      • For distributed HTS gateways, a single XBB can be deployed in a standard IT closet, offering a compact, localized solution ideal for limited-space or small-scale gateway scenarios.
    • On COTS infrastructure in private cloud
    • On CSP’s COTS infrastructure in public cloud

iDirect offers flexibility to transition between deployment options starting from on-pre/ private cloud transitioning to public cloud as needs and costs for cloud deployments evolve, while ensuring DIFI compliance for seamless interoperability across COTS and other IT infrastructure.
