iDirect Quality of Service (QoS) Course Description – 4.1

The iDirect Quality of Service (iQoS) is a five day advanced training course.  It will provide the learner with the knowledge required to fully understand and efficiently configure Quality of Service on VT iDirect networks. This training is part of a set of advanced courses: Advanced iDirect Operation & Maintenance (AiOM) and iDirect Layer-2/Layer-3 Configuration (iL2L3) classes.  This training is oriented for personnel responsible for designing and implementing Quality of Service (QoS) and Service Level Agreements (SLA) on iDirect networks. The training provides in-depth theoretical knowledge regarding the functionality of iDirect Quality of Service and features Group QoS with additional background knowledge on the subject.

The course, a blended format of lectures, demonstrations and practical exercises, is presented in a clear and technical format, providing each learner with the knowledge required to perform advanced GQoS configurations on iDirect networks. In addition to course material, the learner will obtain knowledge OSI stack, Ethernet frames, IP packets, TCP segments, packet generation and capturing tools, traffic filtering and of course knowledge on Group QoS (GQoS). The class will be conducted using iDX 3.5 software release exclusively.

After completing all associated materials, lectures, practical exercises and learner knowledge assessments, a final written exam would be administered at the end of the five-day training session.

  • Prerequisite Learner Skills

The iDirect Operation and Maintenance (iOM) course is a prerequisite to attend the iDirect Quality of Service Boot Camp (iQBC) training, as the topics covered in the introductory training will be the starting point. An iDirect network operation experience of at least 6 months and familiarity with the iVantage software suite is also required.

A basic user level knowledge of Linux operating system command line interface is advised, as the training will intensively involve accessing Linux based servers, line cards and remotes. The learner must be comfortable over a Windows operating system and have basic software installation skills, since the iVantage suite of applications, SSH and terminal software will be deployed on the laptops.

  • Course Outline

The preparation of this training material is focused, in its intent, to prepare each learner with the basic ability to perform essential job functions when they return to their company or organization.

This course is comprised of eight learning modules listed below:

    • Module One Protocols and Traffic
    • Module Two QoS Fundamentals & Filter Profiles
    • Module Three Remote Service Groups
    • Module Four Application Service Groups
    • Module Five Group QoS and DVB-S2
    • Module Six Group QoS and Adaptive TDMA
    • Module Seven Monitoring GQoS
    • Module Eight Group QoS Multicast
