IoT PaaS Solution

ST Engineering iDirect’s new IoT Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) Solution provides its service provider partners with the ability to offer satellite-based connectivity for the industrial Internet of Things (IoT) market.

IoT PaaS Solution
  • ST Engineering iDirect’s new IoT Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS) Solution is an innovative satellite communication network system that enables robust, low-cost satellite services for a very large number of low data-rate users. The PaaS offering utilizes a family of compact, lightweight terminals that feature a tightly-integrated satellite modem and flat-panel antenna design in Ka-band (initially) and Ku-band variants. Powered by hiSky‘s robust cloud-based solution delivered in conjunction with iDirect and Newtec platforms, this highly scalable, geostationary-based (GEO) satellite solution enables our partners to gain immediate market access to fixed and mobile IoT environments.

We are offering a range of creative business models to reduce the upfront capital investments and operational complexities service providers traditionally face in creating their own IoT platforms.

At the remote site the IoT Terminal Series uses advanced technology and innovative design featuring a tightly integrated satellite modem and flat panel antenna.

The IoT Terminal Series comes in multiple variants – a portable/mobile terminal series and fixed terminal series which can be quickly and easily connected to the satellite wherever service coverage exists. The terminals feature a phased array antenna design offering a compact form-factor. The terminal formats will be available in Ka-Band or Ku-Band variants.

  • The ST Engineering iDirect’s Dynamic IoT terminal is part of a unique line of satellite terminals that features innovative technology to enable low data rate IoT with highly competitive services for existing and new markets.

The Dynamic IoT Ka terminal is a low cost, compact satellite device based on a state-of-the-art design that enables portable itinerant operations, or fully mobile uses cases with low data rates communication and voice services over Ka-GEO satellites initially.

Featuring an integrated satellite modem with a low profile patch antenna, no moving mechanical parts, fast synchronization, and low power consumption the Dynamic IoT terminal is optimized for mobile LDR use cases.

The Dynamic IoT terminal features WiFi and Bluetooth interfaces to connect to the user’s end devices and/or sensors and also includes an embedded Lithium-ion rechargeable battery to enable satellite connection from any remote location without requiring an external power source, making the terminal fully versatile for remote operations.

The Dynamic IoT terminal is ideal for Comms-on-the-Pause (COTP) portable or itinerant First-Responders and NGO use-cases that require quick deployment with sensor and IoT device connectivity. Optional mobility add-on license enables fully mobile Comms-on-the-Move (COTM) use cases such as Vehicle and Fleet Tracking/Management, Agriculture/Construction sensor aggregation application and Fishing Fleet applications such as vessel tracking and catch reporting.

    The Dynamic IoT Terminal
  • ST Engineering iDirect’s Fixed IoT terminal is part of a unique line of satellite terminals that brings together innovative technology to enable low data rate IoT with highly competitive services for existing and new markets.

The Fixed IoT Ka terminal is a low cost, compact satellite device based on a state-of-the-art design, ideal for mounting on objects such as buildings, poles or other fixed mounting positions with a clear view to the satellite. Featuring an integrated satellite modem with a low profile patch antenna, no moving mechanical parts, fast synchronization, and low power consumption the Fixed IoT Terminal is designed for outdoor applications and supports Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) for remote powering or adaptation to solar power configurations.

The Fixed IoT terminal is intended for deployment in extremely remote regions for LDR applications in Utilities, Pipeline and other Energy markets as well as Mining or Agricultural sensor backhaul applications with low data rates communication and voice services (depending on service options) over Ka-GEO satellites initially.

The terminal features manual pointing and acquisition of signals using an intuitive smartphone app and provide versatile connectivity option using Wi-Fi, Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) for phone, tablets and sensors as well as wired options for IoT device sand sensor gateways such LoRaWAN.

    The Fixed IoT Terminal
    • Complete connectivity solution for Service Providers to procure the IoT terminals from a single trusted source
    • Reducing the upfront capital investments and operational complexity to create their own IoT platform
    • Includes Low Data Rate (LDR) and Medium Data Rate (MDR) service for deployment within both fixed and mobile environments
    • Features compact, flat-panel satellite terminals including a satellite modem and flat-panel antenna design
    • Variants available for fixed and mobile use cases in Ka Band initially and Ku-Band
    • PaaS offering includes hub-side RF equipment and application servers connected to a cloud-based NMS/OSS management framework
    • The PaaS offering is enabling our service provider customers to use their existing capacity and/or existing gateways
    • The technology developed for the IoT system is also capable of being deployed in LEO constellations as those systems become commercially available
    • Compact terminals support various interface technologies such as Ethernet, Wi-Fi, BLE, or gateway linking with IoT device networks such as LoRaWAN
