iDirect Velocity® Advanced iOM

    The Velocity Advanced Course (Advanced iDirect Operations and Maintenance in Velocity / Advanced iOM in Velocity course) is intended for personnel responsible for second level escalations for the iDirect satellite products and networks. The course will provide each individual with advanced knowledge needed to understand the operating and troubleshooting of an iDirect Velocity system.

    This course satisfies requests from our customers to provide a course covering more in-depth information/knowledge about the iDirect equipment not presented in the Introduction to Velocity course (V-iOM course). The course is based on information, our knowledge base, professional tips which were collected from our engineering group, TAC, and suggestions from our customers.

    Presented in a clear and technical manner, the course provides a combination of lecture, demonstrations, and practical exercises that will give the learner a comprehensive overview of advanced network operations from an iDirect perspective.

    The course covers Advance Over-The-Air and Data communication topics and their relevance to the iDirect system. It also covers various features and an inside/in-depth view that enables the learners to have a deeper understanding of the iDirect system.

    Most chapters involve a demonstration of useful commands or exercises relative to the managing or troubleshooting the iDirect network. Hands-on exercises require all learners to participate by logging in to various components of the system and practicing advance troubleshooting methods.

    This is a five-day training course.

  • Prerequisite

    The Introduction to Velocity course (V-iOM course) is a prerequisite to attend this Velocity Advanced Course (Advanced iDirect Operations and Maintenance in Velocity / Advanced iOM in Velocity course).

  • Laptop Requirements

    Each registered student must bring a laptop computer running Windows 10, administrative privileges with the firewall temporarily disabled in order to install the following software during the week: Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobile Client (for VPN connection), PuTTY, WinSCP, iPerf, WireShark, etc. software utilities.

  • Learner Outcomes

    Upon completion of this course, each learner will be able to:

    • Understand iDirect Velocity networking & its architecture, the infrastructure & components.
    • Understand the procedures of SNC NMS installation and the benefits of virtualization. Recognize the major VMWare vSphere features utilized by the Velocity NMS NOC, SAS or EAP.
    • Explain the NMS architecture, services and processes. Identify the differences about the processes and services required between NOC and SAS. Use the console commands required for troubleshooting the NMS cluster, the NMS Update Manager and its related issues. Have an overview knowledge of the NMS upgrade process & implementation with the possible issues, ie the SAS NMS configuration database replication issue, etc.
    • Explain the Protocol Processor and PP cluster’s architecture, processes and their inter-relationships. Identify the PP HA clustering components and its configuration. Use the console commands required to identify the difference between the Cluster Resources and Local Resources and their functions within the clustering architecture. Understand how device configurations or options files are synchronized from NMS to PP Cluster or PP. Use process console commands to learn most of the PP processes to understand each individual functions and their inter-relationships through the well-designed hands-on lab exercises.
    • Learn the Hub Line Card installation, configuration and troubleshooting techniques. Practice and learn how to use the console commands to power on/off or reset an individual line card from PP console, display line card configuration with their associated iNet details, ie. IP addresses, IF Domain, RF Frequencies, etc.
    • Learn step-by-step troubleshooting techniques for terminal acquisition into network. Follow the advanced troubleshooting steps with the uses of appropriate console commands to identify and investigate the specific issues related to the Over-The-Air protocol layer, traffic on SVN, TCP layer and application QoS layer.
    • Identify the various types of Velocity maps and how to create and configure them. Understand what are the PP processes related and how their communications in order to perform the terminal beam switching based on the current firmware designed switch decision logic. Learn the details of the beam switching decision logic with hands-on lab demonstration and the uses of related console commands given by the PP and terminals.
  • Course Goals and Objectives

    The training material is focused, in its intent, to prepare each learner with the necessary ability to perform essential job functions when they return to their organization. At the end of the five-day training session, and upon successful completion of all course requirements, (practical and/or written), an online course critique/survey will need to be submitted. Once done, a soft copy of a Certificate of Attendance may be submitted to for processing.
