iDirect’s DVB-S2 with ACM is a more bandwidth efficient technology for networks with larger outbound capacity requirements. iDirect’s DVB-S2 was designed and developed around IP. It uses extremely efficient encapsulation techniques and the industry’s leading Forward Error Coding (FEC) technology, Low-Density Parity-Check Codes (LDPC).

Customers can leverage this outbound technology to build next-generation satellite networks that significantly improve bandwidth efficiency and offers lower operating costs. The DVB-S2 standard incorporates new modulation and FEC schemes, supporting QPSK, 8PSK and 16APSK modulations on the DVB-S2 downstream and enabling Adaptive Coding Modulation (ACM) to optimize operating parameters. ACM enables each remote to achieve the maximum data throughput by utilizing the most efficient coding and modulation scheme at any moment in time, depending on location within the satellite contour, antenna size and atmospheric conditions. iDirect’s ACM automatically optimizes the link performance, balancing efficiency and availability as link conditions change due to adverse weather conditions. This can result in increased availability and cost savings for the customer.

Adaptive TDMA enables an inroute group to support carriers with different symbol rates and MODCODs. The network dynamically adjusts to changing uplink conditions based on each remote’s demand and the system’s Quality of Service configuration.

With Adaptive TDMA, service providers are able to boost their network throughput, increase network availability and reduce bandwidth and terminal costs or combine these benefits to fit their business needs. A typical fixed VSAT system can boost by 20-40% on the return channels. A typical mobile network can gain about twice as much with improvements, while handling different beam contours in addition to rain fade.
