Intelsat General Partners With iDirect Government Technologies To Implement SatManage System For Major Maritime Network

Network management software helps satcom operator integrate disparate technologies, gain unprecedented view into global network performance

Herndon, Va., October 12, 2010 — iDirect Government Technologies (iGT), a wholly owned subsidiary of VT iDirect, Inc., today announced that Intelsat General Corporation, a leading global provider of fixed and mobile commercial satellite services, will implement iDirect’s SatManage software to support a major maritime network for military vessels. SatManage will seamlessly integrate several regional satellite networks and network operations centers (NOCs) that provide military customers with global coverage —giving Intelsat General a single platform to more effectively track service performance and fault management. iGT is a leading provider of satellite-based IP communications technology to the U.S. Department of Defense and civilian government agencies.

Intelsat General, an indirect, wholly owned subsidiary of Intelsat S.A., will deploy SatManage software in 2010, optimizing a network that serves more than 150 military ships and supports a full range of broadband applications onboard, including Voice over IP (VoIP), video streaming, data transfer and Internet access. SatManage can automate and accelerate the rate of network reporting, previously a difficult and time-consuming task due to the challenges of managing a large number of remote assets on a global scale.

SatManage will also integrate Intelsat General’s multiple network management systems into a single interface, allowing the provider to streamline its NOC and troubleshoot more effectively across the network. By improving its visibility into its maritime network, Intelsat General can increase performance and reliability; identify and resolve issues more quickly; and effectively analyze long-term performance to make more informed decisions regarding overall network operations.

“As our maritime communication network has expanded globally, so have the number of disparate technologies that must be integrated to effectively manage and troubleshoot the network. SatManage will provide a complete view of the network and enable seamless management of it from end to end.”

Vice President, Marketing & Business Strategy, Intelsat General

“Managing a satellite network in a mobile environment can be extremely challenging, especially for military customers with numerous mobile assets to monitor. SatManage was designed exactly for this kind of application; and we will continue to work with Intelsat General to ensure it gets the most out of its new iDirect system.”
