iDirect Technologies Awarded FIPS 140-2 Certification For Their Satellite Networking Solution.
Certification Makes iDirect The Only Integrated, FIPS Compliant Satellite Network Encryption Solution Available Today

8.2.2004

RESTON, Va. - August 2, 2004 - iDirect Technologies, a privately held company that designs, develops, and markets the fastest, most reliable bi-directional satellite-based broadband access solutions, today announced FIPS 140-2 Certification from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) on their hub and remote satellite networking solutions. With this certification, iDirect is the only integrated, FIPS compliant, satellite network encryption solution available today. "This announcement is great news, not just for iDirect, but for our government customers who need a high level of security on their satellite communications," said John Kealey, president and CEO of iDirect Technologies. "Secure communications over satellite based networks was historically a trade-off between functionality and security. With an iDirect powered satellite solution, every government agency now has access to broadband data, voice and video, anywhere in the world, with full FIPS 140-2 security assurance."

The iDirect satellite networking solution, already widely deployed around the world by multiple government, military and enterprise customers, provides remote users with broadband speeds up to 9 Mbps outbound, and 4.2 Mbps return. Each iDirect remote terminal includes a built-in router and is packaged with features such as link encryption, Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) acceleration, Domain Name Server (DNS) caching and real-time traffic management Quality of Service (QoS) prioritization all in one box. The iDirect equipment currently utilizes 3-DES (Data Encryption Standard) encryption and the company's future platform launch scheduled for early next year will meet the industry's Advanced Encryption Standard (AES).

"The iDirect solution is ideal for military and government customers," said John Ratigan, Vice President of Federal Sales. "The compact size, ease of installation and use, and now FIPS certification make iDirect the perfect satellite networking solution for field units, command units, homeland defense, or any government agency who needs secure reliable broadband IP access".

FIPS 140-2 is a government standard that validates security claims for products using cryptography through the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). By law, U.S. government purchasing agents must purchase the product that is certified for FIPS 140-2 (or FIPS 140-1), over one that is not. FIPS 140-2 is also required in Canada and recognized in Europe and Australia. The financial community uses FIPS 140-2 to measure the safety of products handling monetary transactions, and the standard is also being adopted by ISO and ANSI.
